Cabin Fever: Lanai Petroglyphs II (2005)
Cabin Fever is the "crazies" we get up here in the sub-arctic in the long, cold winter. On one winter escape to Lanai, we camped out on this beach and swam in the ocean with our then young son. After a short drive and hike, we found a hillside boulder field rich with old petroglyph carvings. We have revisited the Cabin Fever theme over the years, as we hope to continue to revisit our beach!

Top: Tracy's technique involves working up a full-sized “sketch” in scrimshaw on ivory slab, tinting it, then doing it all over again in the round on the cue.

Left: The island theme is carried through in the materials used in this cue. We had two pieces of Hawaiian koa in the shop in slightly different colors. The golden-toned piece became the grip and the darker, burgundy-streaked piece received the spliced points in the nose and buttsleeve. Though it is now a popular ring on many of our cues, we designed the island fine block ring in alternating squares of mother of pearl and abalone shell for this cue.

Below: The butt cap is hand engraved with the cue's name.
